Abstract:
This paper reviews the relevant psychological literature on clinical work with adults who were sexually abused in childhood. Particular reference is made to the long term sequelae of childhood sexual abuse and implications for psychological assessment. The paper describes incidence and prevalence data, definitions, problems related to under-reporting as well as the short and long term sequalae of childhood sexual abuse. It then attempts to show the place of these data in the clinical context of assessment and therapy.
