Abstract:
This thesis describes a quantitative investigation of leucine, alanine and glucose turnover, metabolite concentrations and hormone levels (insulin, C-peptide, cortisol and glucagon) in normal weight subjects studied after 12 hours and 60 hours of starvation and in obese subjects studied after 12 hours, 60 hours and 2 weeks of starvation. Leucine turnover was measured with L-[1-14C] leucine, alanine turnover with L-[1-14C] alanine and glucose turnover with D-[3-3H] glucose.
