Abstract:
This thesis focuses on young people's experiences of receiving an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis. Chapter Two details a systematic review of the pre-existing qualitative research on the firsthand experiences of receiving an ASD diagnosis. This identified a lack of direct research exploring young people's experiences, and helped provide a rationale for Chapter Three (Empirical Study), which reports on the qualitative study that explored how a group of young people perceived their experiences of receiving an ASD diagnosis. Chapter Four, (Integration, Impact and Dissemination Summary), integrates the findings from Chapters Two and Three, and discusses the study's implications and plans for dissemination.
