Abstract:
Alterations in vascular function have been investigated in two clinically relevant situations - atherosclerosis and exposure to free radicals/reactive oxygen species. Two animal models of atherosclerosis were studied - the cholesterol fed New Zealand White rabbit and the genetically hyperlipidaemic WHHL rabbit. The in vitro model for free radical/reactive oxygen species exposure was investigated in aortic tissue from New Zealand White rabbits. Contractile and relaxant properties of the vasculature were examined in these models.
