Abstract:
This thesis trials the use of fairy tales through creative writing, oral storytelling, drama, role-play and media with the aim of improving literacy learning and enhancing personal, social, well-being for adult learners. Themes are explored in relation to literacy as a social practice to include socioeconomic contexts, life transitions, identity and learner empowerment. Findings present insights into participants’ broader literacy lives in relation to language as a dialogic, interactive process with fairy tales providing a scaffold for literacy progress and PSE learning which was explored through Case Studies, Questionnaires and Curriculum Project examined within the current skills-based framework.
