The development and application of a semi-energy post-local buckling finite strip
|
A geometrically non-linear finite strip for the post-local-budding analysis of geometrically perfect thin-walled prismatic structures under uniform end shortening is developed. The formulation of the finite strip is based on the concept of the semi-energy method. The developed finite strip is applied to the plate and to the plate structure problems (Le. short struts), and the relevant computer programs are developed. The results are discussed in detail and compared with those available from published work, wherever possible, or with those obtained from a finite element method analysis (in the case of plate problems) carried out by the author employing a commercial package. This has provided confidence in the validity and capability of the developed finite strip in handling the post-local-buckling problem of plate structures.
