Abstract: | |||||
During the past two decades, the use of sterically demanding m-terphenyl ligands in the stabilisation of low-coordinate main group compounds has facilitated a number of novel coordination modes and highly interesting small molecule reactivity. Despite this, much less attention has been given to d-block transition metal complexes utilising these ligands. In order to further the study of low coordinate transition metal aryl compounds this thesis aims to utilise a series of previously reported and new m-terphenyl ligands, of the form 2,6-Ar2C6H3, in the synthesis of low coordinate transition metal complexes, and investigate the reactivity of these metal centres towards a host of small molecules.
