Abstract:
1. Allopregnane- 3a,20a -diol has been isolated from the urine of human patients, who were shown to have no detectable amount of endogenous allopregnane3a, 20a -diol, after intramuscular administration of progesterone. 2. The amount of allopregnane- 3a,20a -diol accounted for about 0.3; of the administered progesterone. 3. The ratio (30:1) of pregnane- 3a,20a -diol: allopregnane -3a,20ä -diol arising from administered progesterone is not significantly different from that found in human late pregnancy urine. 4. It is suggested that most, if not all, of the allo -pregnanti- 3a,20ä -diol present in human late pregnancy urine arises from progesterone.
