An inclusive search for supersymmetry is performed in final states with jets and missing transverse energy, in the first pp-collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV. The dimensionless kinematic variable, αT, is employed to discriminate between events with genuine and misreconstructed missing energy, providing sensitivity to signatures with low hadronic activity. The data sample analysed corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb-1 collected by the CMS detector at the LHC in 2015. The search is categorised in total jet multiplicity, multiplicity of jets arising from b-quarks and the total hadronic energy. The results are interpreted in the context of squark and gluino pair produced simplified models. In addition, a study of a new jet algorithm for the Level-1 calorimeter trigger upgrade to operate effectively in conditions exceeding the LHC design instantaneous luminosity is presented. The performance of the upgrade algorithm jet and energy sum triggers at high luminosity is evaluated and the effectiveness of several different pileup subtraction techniques compared.
