A study of the gibberellins in the seedling of Phaseolus multiflorus
|
Two ethyl acetate-soluble acid gibberellin-like substances, gibberellins I and II, have been extracted from etiolated Phaseolus multiflorus seedlings, while gibberellins I and II plus an additional ethyl acetate-soluble acid gibberellin-like substance gibberellin III, have been detected in extracts of light-grown seedlings. There were both quantitative and qualitative differences in the distribution of these gibberellin-like substances in the various organs of the Phaseolus multiflorus seedling. There were also distinct differences in the gibberellin content of the plant parts of light- and dark-grown seedlings. The possible significance of these results is discussed. Despite prolonged efforts with thin layer chromatographic techniques, it was not possible to identify gibberellins I, II or III.
