Abstract: | |||||||
The polysaccharide has been purified to an ash content of 1% the acid form. A certain quantity of protein material resisted attempts at removal. The purified material has been analysed for sulphate and uronic sold content, equivalent weight and periodate uptake.
The carbohydrate has been subjected to baryta hydrolysis in an attempt to remove the sulphate groups, and the product purified and analysed as for the original polysaccharide. The sulphate is resistant to alkaline hydrolysis.
