Abstract:
Culture experiments designed to find the media giving the highest rate of mitosis have been carried out using three species of Coleochaete. In certain species the optimum concentration or the media is much higher than that found in nature, The difference in optimum requirements has been correlated with cell wall thickness. Having produced these culture media mitotic divisions in the genus have been studied for the first time and the chromosomes of certain species have been counted. Photographic evidence is presented for the first time.
