Abstract:
The author feels that these six cases are clinically and pathologically similar to those described by Werdnig and Hoffmann. Seen at an early age there is little doubt that clinically they might have been diagnosed as Oppenheim's disease. The author is inclined to agree with Greenfield, Stern and others that Werdnig-Hoffmann paralysis and Oppenheim's disease are one and the same condition with widely differing clinical manifestations, but the same pathological basis.
