Abstract:
A study has been made of the stability of SnO.Si02 glasses at temperatures below the solidus line of the SnO.Si02 equilibrium diagram. The conditions in which crystallisation and decomposition phenomena take place have been determined and a metastable stannous metasilicate found. The solubility of oxygen in liquid tin corresponding to equilibrium with Sn02(s) has been determined between 900 and 1100°C employing a gas-equilibrium method.
