Abstract:
A short history of the antibacterial sulphanilamide derivatives relates their development from Prontosil to the present day. Recent advances in the understanding of the absorption, distribution and. excretion of sulphonamides are discussed. Previous work on their metabolism by acetylation, oxidation and conjugation with sulphate and glucuronate is reviewed, introducing the work described herein.
