Strange particle production in [pi][superscript +]p interactions at 4 Gev
|
This thesis presents a study of the strange particle
production in ir+p interactions at an incident pion momentum
of 4 Gev/c. The Saclay 81 cms. liquid hydrogen bubble chamber
was exposed to a bead from the CERN proton synchrotron and
70,000 pictures vere obtained. The analysis of those events
with at least one observed strange particle decay is presented,
with reference to the non-strange interactions at this energy.
Chapter 1 reviews the background to the experiment. In
Chapter 2 an account is given of the apparatus and processes
used to analyse the events. Chapters 3 and 4 describe the
methods used to analyse the V° and charged V events.
Cross-sections results and a brief discussion of the strange
particle events with four charged secondaries are considered in
Chapter 5. In Chapter 6 all the strange particle reactions
with two charged secondaries are considered in detail and in
Chapter 7 details of the Gottfried and Jackson analysis are
given and the results for two reactions considered.
Finally in Chapter 8, the Buddha meson and the possible
g decay modes of non-strange mesonic resonances are discussed.
