The water saturation in hydrocarbon-bearing formations is usually determined from electrical resistivity logs using Archie-type equations calibrated against core measurements. So far, although numerous researches have been devoted to resolving problems associated with the evaluation of resistivity versus water saturation relationship, the effects of wettabality, saturation history, saturation distribution, and the presence of clay minerals at reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature are not yet fully understood.
