This thesis consists of seven pieces of varying instrumentation accompanied by an analytical commentary. The reader will be presented with a thorough analysis of a wide range of compositional techniques that have their roots in the new and revolutionary development that took place in music during the 20th century. A conscious effort has been made to define the large-scale form of every work via a thorough analysis of the moment to moment structural connections used in each case. In order to illuminate the different aspects of the compositional process in a work, each analysis focuses on several specific areas - the work's general structure, the internal structure, the pitch structure and the organization of pitch material. As indicated by their titles, these parts provide detailed information on how the pieces are constructed as well as many interesting ideas concerning the aesthetic background of these works.
