Abstract: | |||||
The use of some Pinaceae and Leguminosae species in traditional medicine and as sources of bio-active compounds is reviewed. Phytochemical investigations of two Pinaceae species (Abies nobilis and Pinus sylvestris) and one legume species (Prosopis africand) yielded fourteen compounds including two novel flavonoids. Abies nobilis yielded dehydroabietic acid and catechin. Pinus sylvestris afforded dihydromyricetin, dihydroquercetin, docosyl trans-fQiulaXt dihydroconiferyl alcohol and quercetin.
