Abstract: | |||||
Iron is vital for life, so bacteria (including Escherichia coli) need to acquire it from their surroundings. This is achieved partly through the production of siderophores, which are released into the environment, scavenge iron and bring it into the cell where the iron is released. The mechanism of dissociation is not always clear, but in some cases involves the reduction of iron to its ferrous form. This study shows that YqjH involved in the process of iron release as a cytoplasmic siderophore reducatse.
