Abstract: | |||||
Stenocarpella macrospora, the cause of maize leaf blight contributes to a loss of grain yield and quality in Nigeria. Morphological, cultural, pathogenic and molecular variations, as well as processes of infection were assessed on 60 isolates of the fungus collected from Nigeria and Uganda. Comparisons were made of the morphological and cultural characters including colony diameter, growth rate, sporulation, pycnidial production, conidial germination, conidial and germ tube dimensions. There was no indication of specialization among the isolates in their temperature requirements for sporulation, which occurred over the range 10-30°C with a peak at 25°C.
