Suramin has a wide range of biological activities, but the mechanism by which suramin exerts its effect is still unclear. However common to many of its effects is the inhibition of G-proteins. The dopamine receptors are members of the superfamily of G-protein coupled receptors and are believed to exist as dimers or as higher order oligomers. This thesis proposes a method for the synthesis of suramin analogues suitable for a Radley 12 reaction carrousel and explores the interactions and the effects of suramin and suramin analogues at the hD2 dopamine receptor.
