This research both practice-based and critical, investigates the influence that the flaneur plays upon the production of a poetry of place. The poetry contained in this thesis was written within the context of the urban environment, and while for a three year period, occupying the position of poet-in-residence at Liverpool Architecture and Design Trust (LADT). The main body of the thesis contains three portfolios of poetry produced before, during and after the LADT residency. A second residency at Liverpool Cathedral is assessed and a secondary discourse m the form of poetics is presented alongside the poems produced from that residency.
