Abstract: | |||||
The terminal stages of bacteriochlorophyll synthesis in Rhodobacter sphaeroides are catalysed by BchG and BchP. The two genes are encoded within the 45 Kbp photosynthetic gene cluster, and their respective products perform the esterification of the bacteriochlorophyll macrocycle with geranylgeraniol, and its sequential reduction to phytol.
