The crotonase superfamily is a group of low sequence identity proteins that catalyze a wide range of different chemical reactions. Its members share a common trimeric quaternary structure, and while mechanistically diverse, all employ a similar strategy for intermediate stabilisation. This thesis examines two crotonase superfamily members, both involved in carbon-carbon bond cleavage.
