Abstract: | |||||||
In this study the behaviour of five different types of shear connectors was first investigated. These connectors were shot-fired threaded studs, shot-fired nails, angle bracket shears connectors, self-drilling, self-tapping screws and the self-tapping screw fixed shear studs. Eighty-three push-out tests were carried out using two different types of profiled steel sheeting (Holorib and PMF sheeting), three types of concrete (normal weight concrete, Pumice lightweight concrete and Lytag concrete) and three sizes of steel beam. Different arrangements of the connectors were tested. The results obtained were very promising and therefore two full-scale beams were tested to investigate the behaviour of these connectors as a part of a composite structure. It was found from the results obtained in this study that three of the five shear connectors tested (shot-fired threaded studs, angle bracket shear connectors and self-drilling, self-tapping screws) behaved very well and can be used as a part of a composite structure.
