Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to investigate the application of decision aids or decision supports systems (DSS) for complex decision making. The study focused on providing DSS for a particularly demanding job in tactical naval air defence. In this research, a methodology was developed to assign priorities for decision support for each task that has to be performed. The approach is empirically based, using an initial task analysis, observation and a questionnaire. Using the approach, a number of important areas for decision support were highlighted for the Naval tactical decision maker. Recommendations for providing and implementing decision aids in these areas are outlined.
