Abstract: | |||||||
A study of the luminescence properties of alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (α1AAGP) and its basic drug binding properties was carried out. The fluorescence and phosphorescence properties of the protein were studied. The luminescence were found not to differ from those of a typical protein. The effect of basic drug binding on the α1AAGP fluorescence or the drug fluorescence quantum yield was investigated. Drugs studied were; propranolol, chlorpromazine and imipramine. Only chlorpromazine showed quenching of the protein fluorescence.
