Abstract: | |||||||
The segregation of solute elements at grain boundaries has been identified as a major contributor to a number of material degradation phenomena in the structural materials employed in the construction of nuclear reactors. The ability to model such segregation therefore provides a powerful tool for the designers and operators of nuclear power systems. The vast amount of analytical studies into grain boundary segregation stands in testament to the pertinence of this issue to the nuclear industry.
