Abstract:
Hypoxic coronary vasodilation is an important mechanism that ensures adequate oxygenated blood is provided to metabolically active heart. Although it is beyond doubt that this phenomenon plays a central role in matching oxygen supply and increased demand of cardiac myocytes, the underlying mechanisms have proved difficult to disentangle. This study investigated the cellular targets of hypoxic coronary vasodilation with testing the main hypothesis that K_ATP channels play an important role in hypoxic vasodilation by coupling cellular metabolism to cell excitability.
