Abstract:
The above quotation is the one chosen for the title of this thesis because it reflects the importance of student voice, an ongoing theme throughout this research. The aim of this research was to understand the school experiences of young men who have been identified as having ,socia l, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD). The intention was to explore who the young men were as people, what support they received and how they managed the difficulties they faced at school. Seven young men aged between 13 and 15 years attending one of two mainstream secondary schools in one Local Authority in the South West took part. They all had been given a Statement of Special Educational Needs which outlined the level of support that they should receive for their SEBD at school. Two semi-structured interviews were carried out with each participant, which were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).
