The use of low oversampling ratio delta-sigma modulators with digital filters is investigated as a means of analogue to digital conversion for a 'Multiplexed Analogue Components' television receiver. Various means of enhancing the performance of delta-sigma modulator - digital filter combinations are analysed theoretically and tested practically. A system whereby an analogue pre-emphasis filter is used, is proposed and evaluated. Performance analysis is effected by processing pictures stored in a frame store. Simulation of the analogue to digital conversion processes is carried out by running software in a microcomputer interfacing with the frame store. Both objective measurements and subjective viewing tests can be made with this system.
