Abstract:
This thesis covers research undertaken in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Wales, Swansea between October 1992 and September 1995. The research covers the design and construction of a position finding and tracking system for large surfaces. A surface is colour encoded with binary sequences which exhibit a "windowing" property. A sensor reads the colour encoded information from a surface which enables the system to establish and then track the position of the sensor on the surface. Finally, a method for improving the spatial resolution of the system is developed. The research has resulted in a working system which demonstrates that this technology is viable.
