Abstract:
In this thesis I study the geometry of the monopole equations on complex curves. The moduli space is shown to be compact and carries a Kähler structure. The unformization theorem of complex analysis is derived from scratch from the monopole equations. I then study the non-abelian generalization of the equations which can be regarded as a generalization of Yang-Mills theory on Riemann surfaces. Some background material is provided, including an introduction to differential and spin geometry on complex curves.
