Recently there has been considerable interest on fluidization at reduced pressure. A few articles have been published in this field showing that familiar regimes of particulate and aggregative fluidization can be produced under conditions of continuous fluidization flow. The steep pressure drop gradient causes the bed to fluidize in series of intermediate flow regimes. In this regime, the fluidization front may be expected to move axially along the bed with increasing the gas flow or decreasing top pressure. Three different zones of behaviour can be seen in the bed, quiescent, bubbling and slugging, which occur simultaneously.
