Strategic change in organisations has been analysed from a variety of perspectives, 'with explanations focusing on political, cultural, cognitive, and decision-making aspects, to name but a few. However, there has not been the same degree of attention devoted to finding ways to integrate these partial perspectives. In addition, there has been little attempt to develop a methodology which would help in the process of replication and theory development. The result has been a tendency towards theoretical fragmentation and a lack of theory development. This thesis attempts to address these issues. A methodology is developed which provides both a means of developing an analysis of a particular perspective, as well as providing a number of approaches which help to show how a degree of integration may be achieved between the various perspectives. The perspectives are expressed in propositional form. The methodology is applied to empirical data and an analysis is developed which both explicates the application of the methodology as well as generating a number of substantive insights into the subject of the thesis. In addition, it is shown how structuration theory can provide a useful meta-level framework for embedding the overall approach.
