Abstract:
This thesis investigates the behaviour and failure of simple aerospace type carbon fibre composite structures. The work focused on Acoustic Emission (AE) wave propagation in composite materials, the use of advanced AE techniques to detect, characterise and locate damage and their application to the monitoring of buckling and impact failure in large scale structures.
