Abstract:
Chapter 1 mainly focuses on fatty acid and polyketide biosynthesis. The stereochemical course of their biosynthesis as well as the use of stable isotopes in the elucidation of biosynthetic pathways is described. Chapter 2 reviews various methods to prepare α-unsubstituted β-hydroxy carbonyl compounds. The preparation of β-hydroxy thiol esters (R)-96 and (R)-98 and aldehyde (S)-100 through β-hydroxy auxiliary bound intermediates is described. Chapter 3 initially summarises literature syntheses of monocerin 145 and fusarentin ethers and elucidation of the biosynthetic pathway to monocerin.
