Abstract:
Metal-cyclopentadienyl bonds in moderately strained silicon-bridged [l]ferrocenophanes and dicarba[2]ferrocenophanes and highly strained dicarba[2]ruthenocenophanes react with diphosphines to form mixed-hapticity metallocycles through haptotropic reduction of one η⁵-,π-bound Cp to η¹, σ-coordination. The dependence of these reactions on the type of phosphine and degree of strain in the metallocenophane was probed. In one case, an unstrained photoadduct was found to undergo unprecedented ring-opening polymerisation (ROP) to produce polyferrocenylsilane (PFS).
