Abstract:
I have developed a computer code to integrate in time the motion of vortex configurations. My aim was to examine the dynamics of inviscid vortex filaments, specifically quantized vortices in He II. I have investigated what happens in vortex interactions including reconnection events. I have used the vortex filament model pioneered by Schwarz (1985) and Samuels (1990). Vortex filaments are discretised in space using variable meshing, and time-stepped using a fourth order Runge-Kutta method. A comparison was made with some other existing numerical and experimental results to test the code and reproduce published results. The code which I have written in Fortran 90 is a development of the code of Schwarz (1985) and Samuels (1990).
