Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the association between generalised aggressive periodontitis (GAP) and socio-economic position (SEP), and psychological factors. It is hypothesised that there is a social gradient in GAP running from highest to lowest SEP in adulthood and that environmental socio-psychological stress, here represented by number of negative life events, is a risk factor to GAP- while positive life events external resources represented by high social support, and internal resources, represented by high problem-solving confident rather than avoid problems, high personal control and high optimism are protective factors against GAP. Also, it is hypothesised that the highest risk for GAP is to be born in low SEP and remain in low SEP in adulthood, followed by individuals born in low SEP and currently in high SEP, born in high SEP and currently in low SEP, and individuals born in high SEP and currently in high SEP.
