Abstract:
This research investigates the processes of caesium and strontium contamination on mild steel and stainless steel. The nature of the contamination has been identified using experiments with stable and radioactive contaminants. To characterise the contamination analysis using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry was performed on the stable isotope contaminated samples. The radioactive contaminated samples were analysed using gamma counting and storage phosphor autoradiography. Decontamination experiments with using novel decontaminants were performed with radioactive contaminated samples. The process was monitored using gamma counting and storage phosphor autoradiography to evaluate the performance of the novel decontaminants against a current industrial technique.
