Abstract:
Dielectric spectroscopy has been successfully used for the measurement of biomass in fermentation and cell culture for many years. However, on-line measurement of cell properties during fermentation could also provide useful information regarding the physiological state of the cells, which in turn can assist in understanding and controlling the fermentation and provide guideposts to the major transition points in the process. The aim of this project was to explore the extent to which the analysis of dielectric spectra could be used to obtain additional information about the properties of cell in suspension.
