Abstract:
For effective digital optical communication, light pulses must be transmitted at high high rate without any loss or degradation. Light pulses propagating through the optical fibre, however, suffer from various linear and nonlinear effects such as optical losses, group-velocity dispersion (GVD), self-phase modulation (SPM) and stimulated inelastic scattering. The significance and characteristics of these important linear and nonlinear fibre effects are reported.
