Abstract:
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the commonest cause of death in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The underlying mechanisms for this are not fully understood. Abnormities in coagulation are linked to CVD in the general population. There is some evidence to suggest that patients with RA have a dys-regulated coagulation system which may be predisposing them to CVD and atherothrombotic events.
