Abstract:
Despite the frequency and importance of the idea of fragmentation in contemporary urban, social and cultural discourse, there are only a few works that engage in a thorough examination of what underlies this concept. This thesis seeks to explore the current meanings, origins and sequences of urban fragmentation, looking at the relationship between urban theories and practice by using the metropolis of Buenos Aires and the central area of Abasto in Buenos Aires as case studies.
