Abstract:
The Three Gorges Project (TGP) centres on a very large dam on the Yangtze River that is China's biggest construction project since the Great Wall. The TGP is intended to deliver huge benefits, primarily through improving the standard of flood protection in the Yangtze's Middle Basin. Direct benefits such as reduced flood probabilities occur automatically, but wider socioeconomic benefits are secondary and will not occur automatically.
