Abstract:
High-affinity methanotrophic soil bacteria play an important role in the global methane cycle, oxidising atmospheric methane that would otherwise contribute to climate change.In this thesis, the PLFA compositions of three low-affinity methanotroph cultures [Methylococcus capsulatus, Methylosinus trichosporium & Methylocella silvestris] were determined and used to calculate a conversion factor for estimating methanotrophic biomass from PLFA concentrations.
