Abstract:
Studies in migrants and those from India had shown a diabetes epidemic in South Asians. In this research work, the epidemiology and aetiology of adult-onset diabetes in an endogenous South Asian population in Sri Lanka was studied in detail to enhance the overall knowledgebase of diabetes in South Asians and to provide data important for managing and controlling the diabetes epidemic in this population. Two main studies were conducted: the Sri Lanka Diabetes and Cardiovascular Study (SLDCS) and the Sri Lanka Young Diabetes Study (SLYDS).
