Abstract:
Computer-mediated communication is of increasing importance in business, education, and personal communication. Discussion lists are a prevalent form of textbased computer-mediated communication. Individual lists centre upon broad topics. and are home to multiple threads of discussion within those topics. Interaction takes place in terms of individuals submitting messages to lists which others can then read and, in turn, submit responses to. Discussion lists thrive on the submission of responses to others' messages, but what determines whether or not a given post will receive any responses.
